This is a great reminder to all of us about preparing for travel. Luckily, I’ve been watching the weather on Intellicast, and even a week ago, I realized that it wouldn’t be as cold as the monthly averages led me to expect. In Houston it will probably November or December before it will be cold enough. I was all ready to pull out a favorite sweater and wear my new suede jacket. This is warmer than I had expected - almost 10 degrees warmer than recorded averages for September. Lake Placid: highs around 75° (24° celsius) and lows around 55°(13° celsius). Current weather guess? Corning, New York: high around 80° (26° celsius) and lows around 60° (15° celsius). I’ve had two potential packing lists going, depending on how cold it will be. Whiteface Mountain - Lake Placid, New York. Mid-state and up-state New York are substantially cooler than Houston in September (thank goodness). I have been waiting until closer to travel time to make final packing decisions (wheels up Monday, T-minus forty-eight hours and counting now) to know more about the weather. In addition to my carry-on suitcase, I will also take my Tenba messenger bag, but camera gear, GoPro stuff, and laptop fill that completely. The press trip will require lots of walking and shooting photographs. So - ten days and a 14″x22″ bag!ĭress and vibe for travel bloggers is casual, which helps. Solution: a travel capsule wardrobe built around black and medium indigo blue.Ĭommunications about the press trip have been clear: Pack Light! Expectation is that we will have one carry-on size suitcase + camera/laptop bag. I’m headed to the Finger Lakes region of New York for a September conference, and then on to the Adirondacks on a five day press trip.
